How to Draw and Paint Fantasy Art Vampires with Scott Purdy - book review

Draw and Paint Fantasy Art Vampires with Scott Purdy is another great instructional fantasy art book from Impact books. This time the book is about Vampires and illustrated by Scott Purdy, fantasy artist / illustrator.

As with my other posts, like ‘Draw and Paint Warriors and Heros with Alan Lathwell’, fantasy art is a passion of mine. Being a budding fantasy artists and a collector of fantasy art books for over 20 years, I wanted to draw your attention to this second great fantasy art book from Impact books, Draw and Paint Fantasy Art - Vampires'. have been lucky enough to work for a publisher that produces some of these wonderful titles and as such have a good insight into these 'how-to-art books'.

Draw and Paint Fantasy Art - Vampires' is another 128 page instructional fantasy art book that shows the reader how to paint some crazy fantasy Vampires. The Vampire characters include Dracula, Cheerleader, Dr Nosferatu, Brawling Vamp, Voodoo Vampire, Mistress Vampire, Lupine Vampire, Spring Heeled Jack, Bat Vampire and Vampire Hunter.

Each project starts with an introduction to the character, a sample of the finished artwork for.The the project launches into the basic line drawing to start creating your fantasy Vampire. These initial basic sketches build up into a more finished character sketch, before colour is added and the reader taken step-by-step to the finished painting.

Like the other books in the set (Draw and Paint Fantasy Art – Warriors and Hero’s) Many books that show the reader step-by-step instruction on how to create a painting can suffer from to few steps. This leaves the reader needing to fill in the gaps to create the painting. Draw and Paint Fantasy Art - Vampires, shows up to 20 steps for the projects, which is enough information to be able to build out your own illustrations.

The book shows you how to bring to life the most exciting and bizarre Vampires and is primarily a digital fantasy art book aimed at fantasy artists of all abilities. Like many instructional fantasy art books it also covers the following general areas, including tools and materials, anatomy, planning. Traditional painting, digital painting, drawing and colour. These can be a little generic but the projects are the backbone of this book and if you like Vampires and want to try and dabble yourself then this book will give you some

The book itself is 128 pages, well presented and a good companion to Draw and Paint Fantasy Art –Warriors and Hero’s, but I did find some of the illustrations a little dark within the book

In all an interesting book that will be added to my collection along with he other book.
