Tom Kidd Fantasy Art Book Review - Other Worlds
68Other Worlds by Tom Kidd - fantasy art book
Other World by Tom Kidd - How to paint and create Epic Scenes of Fantasy
is 192 pages of fantastic fantasy art and instruction with a beautiful
painterly feel from one of the best fantasy artists in the field, Tom
Kidd.
As a fantasy art enthusiast and a collector of fantasy art books
(both traditional fantasy art and digital fantasy art books) for over
twenty years. This book really does rate high on the must have list and
for me will be on my bookshelf soon. This fantasy art book has a real quality look and feel to
it, due to it being a hardback edition with a beautiful painting for the
wrap around cover.
Split into three main sections as follows, the basics of getting
started, techniques theory & subject matter and putting it all
together, really helps the budding fantasy artists to understand Tom
Kidd’s way of working . From this the reader can put into practice what
has been learnt with a number of informative step-by-step projects.
The scope of the fantasy art / science fiction artwork within the
book ranges from unicorns, dragons, barbarians to strange worldly
lanscapes with a science fiction aspect to them. Detail colour and shear
imagination are present on almost every page and there really should be
something in this book for most fantasy artists.
For me this book really does hit the mark due to the variety of the
images and subject matter. The painterly style of Tom kidd is something
that can be lost with todays minefield of digital tools.
Every
artist, be it a fantasy artist or traditional landscape painter have
their own tastes and views but the proof is in the pudding, so see below
and make up your own mind.
For me this is a beautiful fantasy art book filled with some strange and
stunning fantasy / science fiction art, but let me know what you think, and do you like Tom
Kidds style of work.
